Allotment Is Delayed The Agriculture Department said recently it has been delayed in allotting funds to States for this year’s school lunch program because it is not certain yet how much money will be available. , Congress appropriated $83,500,000 for the program, the same amount as last year. But it gave President Truman authority to reduce this and other nondefense items in order to hold down Federal expenditures. Normally,'such Federal funds before the school terms opened. The department said it hopes to ^et a White House dedsibn within a few days. If allowed the full amount.of the appropriation, the department would allot about $65,000,000 *o the states to help finance the program. . The remainder of the money would be used by the ’department to buy surplus foods for distribution among the participating schools. Officials said the schools Joining in the program should go ahead with it, because they are certain to get some Federal aid.
