Coincident with the beginning Of the annual period for registering their automobile for the 1951 license year, Virginia motorists were advised by the Division of Motor Vehicles to take good care of their bright, new 1951 plates during the next twelve months.
The reason-t—they may only get ‘ a tab to validate their plates during 1952 if plans now contemplated go into effect; which Commissioner C. P. Joyner, Jr., said would effect a saving of 700 tons of steel, and conform to the drastic economy which is being urged in connection with the defense program. ~
The Commissioner pointed out that this tab-validating system was in effect in Virginia for one license year during World War II, and today is being employed by several of the states in their licensing operations for 1951 registrations. In addition to advising motorists to take care of their 1951 plates, Mr. Joyner also called attention to the fact that they would have to save their 1951 registration cards in order to obtain the 1952 tags.
