LOOK AT THE NEED.

The need is great. It is estimated that approximately 600.000 persons in the United States now have active tuberculosis apd that one half of this number are unknown to health authorities and, in many instances, are unaware that they have the disease. TB is - the first cause of death from disease in all persons between 16 and 36 and in the population as a whole kills more people than any other infectious diseases. TB kills 40,<000 persons a year, 100 a day. It strikes 100,000 new victims annually. It * robs people of the prime of life, putting wage earners and homemakers ont of action when they axe needed most. TB can destroy health even when It due* not kiH. Patients may have to spend months or years in a TB hospital or sanitorium before they are cured. LOOK AT THE RECORD

Progress has been made. Tha Rappahannock County Tuberculosis Association, along with all the 8,000 TB associations affiliated with the National Tuberculosis Association, have played a major role in cutting down the TB death rate 35 per cent since 1000. Since that time, TB has been cheated of 6,000,000 American lives, for that is the number who would have died of TB in the intervening years if the death rate had continued at the 1900 rate.

These accomplishments are possible thanks largely to the efforts of TB associations like ours, which help to discover home-town TB ' victims, support rehabilitation programs, and teach people how TB can be prevented and how to avoid spreading it to their family, » friends, and neighbors. They also help support valuable medical .research.
