I hope you won’t be too critical of Attorney General McGrath if he seems not to carry the prosecution, ball, which is his job on the team. He may fumble the ball, but I want you to know he’s one of the best blockers in the game. He blocked me when I tried to find out how many officials of his Department belonged to a lawyers organization which J. Edgar Hoover said is a notorious Communist front. His blocking of the McCarran Anti-Subversive Act has been brilliant, as have been his speeches blocking Congressional investigations generally. But the investigators on the Ways and Means subcommittee appear at last to be inside of his blocking, and ready to tackle the grave charges against his department.
