Charlotte Golladay, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Wood, and Mrs. D. D. Miller attended the annuel ..luncheon meeting of the Virginia Orchestra Guild chapter on Tuesday at the Jefferson hotel, Richmond.
Twenty-eight guild chapters of the state .were represented and several women’s clubs, including clubs from Richmond, Middlesex, and Essex counties. • John Powell, Virginia’s pianistcomposer, was the guest speaker. He stated that one of his dreams had been realized through the . Haakers. They were perpetuating a heritage of Virginia, he said. “We have a tradition of music in the finest form and it should not be considered as something remote. Just as speech is’ the communication of thought, so is music the communication of feeling/'. Mr. Powell said.- “Joy is better made than listened to. It is democratic and must be earned and learned.” .
Mr. Powell said that on one of his tours in France a great musician asked the people to come and assist. He expressed his faith In the fact that the people of Virginia and the Haakers would keep this heritage alive for many years to come.
