Benefit Dinner
Newbill Miller, President of Rappahannock 4-H Council, announces its finance committee will sponsor a Benefit Dinner at the Washington Community Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on St. Patrick’s Day. March 17.
Proceeds from the dinner, actually'a banquet in so far as the eats are concerned, twill be used for three purposes. First of all to raise / funds towards partially paying 2 4-H’ers tuition to the State Short Course this summer, secondly to purchase a large banner to be kept for a year by the 4-H club whose activities, (community, club itself, project completion, attendance, etc.) are judged to^ be the most outstanding of the ten 4-H , clubs in the county. Thirdly, the finance committee is keenly inter-_ eSted in the “Share and Care” program of the National 4-H Club — Foundaton.
This organization has recently purchased Chevy Chase Junior College, a 12 acre dampus and five buildings as a National 4-H Club Center. This center will be used by many rural groups. Priority will be given to youth $£oups interested in rural life of which the annual National Assembly of 4-H , leaders and delegates heads the list. Youth groups from counties, states and other countries will use . it. Farm organizatons, H.D. Clubs etc. may use it. Actually it will be operated on a non prpfit basis; a place for these groups to stay near the National Capital at cost. Even - tually, as planned the center wilt . have lodging, dinning and conference facilities for groups up to - 300 persons year around. 'The Foundation also plans $300,000. _ supporting scholarships to further : its Citizenship training programs to be held at the center._££1 . Actually 4-H dubs, members. Extension workers, Friends of 441 and Agricultural Associations are • helping finance the mortgage lefting, remodeling and scholarship program. Not one cent will - come from government funds., there just ain’t any.
Contributions should be sent to the 4-H Council or to the Farm or : Home Agent made payable to | National 4-H Cub Foundaton. -
The dinner will be $1.50 per | plate and includes turkey with all the trimmings. Tickets will go on sale around the end of February, ; so plan now to give your family a treat and thereby help our 4-H Clubs. " .* '• v*vv:; —-— _ .
