The third week of August brings to man families the problem of “back to school clothing/' Blends of rayons or acetate with wool for fall or dark cottons now being shown for fall will be of special interest as they may meet the family needs. These fabrics will be cheaper than wool and many of them can be cared for by laundering in the home.
New blends or mixtures of fillers can be costly to you and the cleaner when they ar& unknown. Ask for labels when you buy and sew them in your clothing. Special finishes such as wrinkle resistant also should be noted or sewn irt label. One of age old school costumes is the sweater and skirt ensemble. .How well the sweater will wear and keep it good appearance depends not only on the fiber itself, but also on the way it is made—the knitting and other details. For example a sweater may be full fashioned or cut and sewn like a dress. The finest and most expensive ones are full fashioned. This means the back, front and slaves are knit on machines that shape and bind off edges as they knit. Where these stitches are increased or decreased, 'little marks may be seen. Fashioning marks are sometimes imitate'd or cut and sewn on sweaters for looks only. If marks are geniiine the rows of stitches on either side of the mark are set at an angle. If fashioning is imitated the rows of stitehes arc simply parallel. In making sweaters, it is much quicker and cheaper to cut pieces of knit yard goods by pattern than the knit shaped pieces/Therefore inexpensive sweaters are 'always cut and sewn. This does nof mean that some of these better grade sweaters are not good buys for serviceability and appearance.

And now a hint for you mothers Are you getting your money value in stockings? Perhaps you have been buying a smaller denier, that is finer thread. IS denier is the sheerest and is designed for very special wear, not to withstand hazards of every day. The higher gauge 60 rather 51 gives better wear in a 15 denier for dress up.
