There’s re-modeling going on at a home in Washington, with plastering, sawdust, and chips flying high and wide. The poor, meticulous housekeeper, iwith all that dirt in her house, is like a mother blue-jay with a cat in the yard! The lady sweeps the front porch; in five minutes it’s piled up with sawdust and dirt again. She pushes the broom briskly through the house^by the time she sweeps this lot out the back door, it’s just as dirty again. Someone has suggested that she try camping until, the workmen finish and then clean up once and for-all. But her tidy soul rebels.
Sympathy can flow freely from the hearts of all housekeepers who have been forced to endure this experience of house-repair. I recall when we had the kitchen re-plastered. We sealed up the door to the dining room and planned all traffic for workmen to go through the back door. It was iwasted thought, time, and energy : the dust from the torn-down plaster seeped everywhere — clear through to the front closet in the upstairs bedroom! But we got a laugh out of it anyway.
