Orchard seed is estimated in Virginia to be 29 per cent smaller in 1953 than a year ago and is the smallest crop since 1948. Nationwide this year’s production is smallest in five years. Carryover of orchardgrass seed on farms is estimated to be at 264,000 pounds, compared to 110,000 pounds in 1952 and the 10-year aver-< age of 177,900 pounds. Stocks of this seed and other field seeds and other field seeds carried over by dealers' will be given in a report on August by the Virginia Cooperative Crop Reporting Service.
