I’ve noticed that with this hot weather my “get up and go” has got up and went.

Have you been in the office of the Commissioner of Revenue recently? As you walk in the door, there parks a large sign bidding* you “SMILE!” Now, it’s been said that a tax-collector is about as popular as a skunk at a picnic, and maybe the local official is trying to make us like declaring our property so the bill can be turned over to the treasurer; I don’t know.

Wide-eyed with excitement, little Ernest stormed into the newspaper office: “It was two of ’em! an’ big ones, too!”
“Whoa! slo’w up, young man,” I implored. “What was ‘two of ’em?” '
“Snakes, and one was cut up. It looked' awful!”
“Now, Ernest, let’s get this tale straight. Where were the snakes? Who killed the one that was ‘all cut up’ and why so excited?”
The jabbering continued, while Ernest’s eyes got bigger and bigger as his recitation went on: “You know that road man? Well, it was the road man that cuts people’s- fields’s snake, an’ he cut it all up. It sure was a mess!”
The rest of the story will have to come later. At that time Ernest spied a man. “There he i^**8 shouted the young ’un, “He’s tne man that gave me a quarter to put in the juice box.” And Ernest’s departure was as hasty as his entrance.
