Rappahannock Teachers
Attend District Meeting
The teachers of Rappahannock County attended the annual meeting of District N. of the Virginia Education Association, conducted in Culpeper High School, Friday, October 2. Discussions- and presentations centered around the theme, “Improving Instruction in the Secondary and Elementary Schools."
N. Denis Hoover, president of the District N organization, presided over the morning session. The James Wood Glee Club opened the meeting with several selections. The Rev. Franklin Cale offered the invocation A welcome was given by Paul Hounshell and was immediately followed by introduction of guests and the board of directors. A business meeting included reports from the secretarytreasurer, Mrs. Elsie Hovemale.
Greetings from the Va. Education Association were brought by Joseph B. Van Pelt, president of the Va. Education Association. Dr. Don S. Patterson, chief of the elementary school section U. S. office of Education, was the morning speaker. Following his address, the teachers divided into high school-elementary groups and conducted sectional meetings, discussing common problems and sharing unique methods of solution. Mrs. Claude Cook of Flint Hill was the discussion leader for the seventh grade group.
In Hie afternoon a memorial service was observed. Dr. George H. Reavis, a former assistant supt. of Cincinnati Public Schools, addressed the teachers in the closing address.
