Funeral services for John Edward Sutphin, 82, a native of Flint Hill, will be held Thursday, afternoon at 4 o’clock at the Omps Funeral Home with Dr. George Denning Jackson officiating, assisted by Rev. J. S. Duckwail.
Burial will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery. Among the pallbearers will be Thomas Manuel, John Hoover, Thurman. Hicks, Bobby 'Adams, Purcell Fincham, Richard Biggs, George W. Jones and T. I. Thomas. \
Mr. Sutphin died, at his home in Winchester, Tuesday morning, September 7 at 8:50 o’clock.
Born in Flint Hill, Mr. Sutphin was educated at Flint Hill and at the Luray Academy. On January 29, 1901 he married the former Miss Lula C. Funkhouser of Frederick County.
For a number of years he was tax collector in Rappahannock County. In 1923 he moved to Winchester and retired in 1927.
Mr. Sutphin avocation was ’ gardening and he gained much pleasure in the cultivation of both vegetables and flowers. " He was the last surviving member of his family, a brother, William L. Sutphin, having passed away last February.
Surviving are his wife, five * daughters, Mrs. Marye S. Jones, Mrs. C. Bruce Harloe, Mrs. Geo. F. Davis,* Mrs. D. O. Louder* back, --and Mrs. W. Godfrey Zirkle, all of Winchester, and a number of nieces and nephews.
