A goodly portion of the Virginia Feeder Calf Exhibit winning national recognition by talcing first place at the Ohio State Fair at Columbus last week were produced at James W. Fletcher's Thornton Hill Farm. There were 28 calves in all put on feed Aug. 1st after being selected by C. P. McClaugherty of the State Division’s Margets, Allen Randolph of the Virginia Beef Cattleman’s Association and K. C. Williamson of the VPI Animal Husbandry Department. Nine of these calves were from Thornton Hill, nine from Carlton Clore’s herd, two from Brandy Rock, one from Bending River, three from Mr. Loving’s herd, four from Mr. Sims’ herd, all of Culpeper county. Last week twenty-three head were chosen to go to Columbus where, upon arrival twenty were selected for the exhibit open to-national_ competition. Need more be said than—they won! A grand boost to the quality feeder calves offered in this section.
