As the yield of corn would indicate, these results were obtained with a very low application of fertilizer on the surface soil which consisted of a 100 pound per acre of 20% superphosphate on the small grain. To determine what would happen with adequate surface fertilization, new treatments were applied both to the subsoil and surface and the results checked for the 6 year period 1948-53 inclusive. The base treatment applied to the surface 9 inches, consisted of 3 tons of lime, 1 ton of rock phosphate with 100 pounds of muriate of potash, start fertilizers on all crops and extra nitrogen on corn and wheat. In addition, 4 tons of lime and 1 ton )f rock phosphate were put in the shattered subsoil in 1947. The results from this test are given in the
