Lyne, County Agent Thirty-one buyers from six states paid $95,020.58 j for 968 head at the Rappahannock Angus Breeders’ Feeder Calf i held at Front Royal Livestock Market on Tuesday, October 11th. Of these 514 went to Pennsylvania, 204 to Maryland, 100 to Ohio, 86 to Michigan, and 2 to New Jersey, while 62 !head remained in Virginia. I James McKenney Willis of Maryland was the leadijng buyer having purchased 115 ;head of heifers and steers. Measrsj. Hersey, Higgins and Cressler of Pennsylvania were also leading buyers. This year’s consignment was better ail the way than a year ago in that the average weight was up 18 lbs.; 7% more Fajncy and Choice grades; per head value $16.64 greater and price jper hundred weight $3.04 higher* * - > , Max Covington of Maryland was back again and reported he won champion Pen of Five at the 1954 Eastern National with Rappahannock calves.
Maryland cattlemen at reported they would have Rappahannock calves in the Fat Cattle Show at the Eastern National again this fall. Several expressed their awareness of our breeders not showing enough interest to come down to see their show and our calves as finished cattle. This year the Eastern National will be the week of November 14th at Tamonium. T"would be' nice for a couple of carloads of Rappahannock feeder calf producers to get together, take a day off and go see and boost their product.
