Winter pears from the West Coast also are featured as top plentifuls next month. The winter pear crop is expected to be well over 7 million bushels which is 23 percent above last year’s crop. The Bose pear, sometiimes called the “fall russet,” is expected to be the most important pear on November markets. This is a large pear, characteristically tapering in shape with a smooth, russet-brown skin and sweet, mellow flesh that makes it especially delicious for eating out of hand or for fresh pear salad.
Holiday entertaining starts; in November when the plentful Supplies of cheese and ice, cream will be especially useful. Fluid milk will still be in good supply in November even though this is the seasonally low month for this item. Other forms of milk, such Las evaporated milk or dry sjcim milk, fit the holiday cooking schedule.
Lard and vegetable fats and oils continue in heavy supply.
The plentiful fish item for November is canned tuna.
