Saturday the weather gave a preview of winter. It snowed, sleeted and was generally disagreeable and slick. Many people changed tbrir Christmas shopping plans and stayed at home. Others who ventured forth were sloping and sliding and a few ended up in the ditch. Several husbands received phone calls to rescue their wives and others abandoned their cars and rode With people who were better equipped for the weather. Young gentlemen who had planned to hunt spent the day calling on young ladies and toasted martanallows and popped com. Generally it was a good day to stay at home by the fire and read a good book. Someone remarked that if a little snow could alter so many plans, maybe we had better consider what a bomb might do.
