When a veteran receiving pension is found in, need of regular aid and attendance, his pension un$135.45 and by $70l00 under the der the old law is increased to new law: This additional allowance for aid and attendance is discontinued the first day of the veteran’s admission to a Veterans Administration hospital, with the exception of cases of blindness, leprosy! and paralegia with loss of bladder and anal control.
For example a veteran receiving $135.45 under the old law, with none of the three excepted disabilities, is admitted to a VA hospital on December 2, 19611. His pension check is reduced to $66.15 or $78.75, as appropriate, as of December 2, 1961.
In the case of a veteran receiving pension of $90.00 under the new law plus $70.00 for aid and attendance, with none of the three excepted disabilities, who is admitted to a VA hospital on December 1961, the monthly payments are reduced to $90.00 effective the same day. On the first day of the month following two full calendar months of hospital treatment or domiciliary care, or on March 1, 1962, the veteran,s check is cut $30.00 per month. The difference beeween the veteran’s basic rate of $90.00 and the $30.00 may be apportioned to his wife and children if the family needs the money. This difference can never be paid to the veteran himself.
