As for molasses, it takes 3 pounds to equal 2 pounds of corn in total digestable nutrients. Feed which ever you can buy the cheapest.
Q. Well what about grinding my com, stalk and all, will this pay? A. No. There is very little feed value in the stalk itself. Again you would be better off to put your1 dollar spent for grinding into a feed with higher total digestable nutrient content. Corn is cheap. One pound of corn will equal about 3 pounds of hay and may be substituted at this rate for not more than one half the hay normally allowed a beef cow.
For example 20 pounds of good mixed hay is considered adequate for an average beef cow before she calves By feeding 3 pounds of corn and 10 pounds of hay daily the cow would be expected to do just as well as she would on 20 pounds of hay.
