Parrish, prominent beef cattleman from the Viewtown area has won the “1962 Conservationist of the year” award for Rappahannock County. The award was presented by Culpeper Soil Conservation District Supervisor Gen. Daniel Noce at a banquet held at the DeVivi Restaurant in Orange Thursday night, October 18.
The annual award is presented to the outstanding conservation farmer from each of the six counties comprising the Culpepper Soil Conservation District. The counties included in the District or Culpeper, Orange, Madlison, Rappahannock, Greene and a portion of two Magisterial Districts in Fauquier County.
Mr. Parish won the award on r the basis of the outstanding con-" servation job he has done over the past fourteen years. The
1376 acre farm has been operated as a beef cattle unit since Mr. and Mrs. Parrish purchased it shortly after the close of World War II. Crop rotations in contour strips, improved pastures and hay crops, woodland management program, farm ponds and the development of seeps and springs for livestock watering are some of the outstanding features of the Parrish conservation program. Mr. Parrish also served as the representative; from Rappahannock County on the Culpeper Soil Conservation District Board of Supervisors for one term.
