Key To Perpetual Income Is Proper Forest Management

Woodland owners are very fortunate. They own a resource which can be made to produce a perpetual income. Unlike many other resources, spch as iron, coal and oil, our timber is living and growing and is able to replace itself.

The key to this perpetual income is proper forest management. Over 50% of Virginia’s forest land is in farm woodlots. Unfortunately, an overwhelming majority of these woodlots are pqorly managed. In most cases, a sawtimber harvest is only possible once during each generation. Thus, the son reaps the benefits of liabilities of his father’s woodland management.

Good forest management can more than double the present production of our farm woodlands. Several basic steps are required:
