Grass Fire Gives
Town A Scare
High winds whipped a grass fire into alarming proportions in the town of Washington Monday and resulted in a four alarm blaze. Burning trash blew from the incinerator at Washington Elementary School shortly after noon and ignited the field behind the building. The gusty March winds sped the blaze through the dry grass and brush down the hill to the Lake Motel where a storage building was completely destroyed. A small building on the Carrigan place was also burned to the ground and portions of a fence burned. A goat in the Carrigan i building was burned but survived.
