The campaign includes distribution of posters, stickers and other printed materials, speeches by State officials and others, and information releases through newspapers and radio-TV. All radio stations in Virginia are being sent transcriptions of short messages on pesticide safety by Commissioner Chumney; Dr. Wilson B. Bell, Dean of Agriculture at Virginia Polytechnic Institute; Dr. Mack I. Shan holt z, Virginia Commissioner of Health; and Henry Verhulst, Poison Control Chief for the United States Public Health Service. Chumney noted that the labels on pesticides t611 how they should be used. By fol- . lowing instructions and handling them with the same care given to medicines, the user can avoid accidents, he said. Here are some general rules of safety for pesticides:
Keep out of reach of children and pets; keep containers tightly closed; never dusting; avoid inhaling sprays or dusts; cover food and water containers when using'pesticides; and always destroy or safely dispose of empty containers.
