Keep Vehicle Light* On During Holiday Week end
In an attempt to promote safety on the highways and streets the trucking Industry In Virginia will follow a previously adopted procedure and keep vehicle lights burning around the clock on three critical holiday weekends In 1963. Motorists of all types are urged to participate. All operators of motor vehicles are being asked to burn their lights continuously when in operation during the Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day weekend periods of heavy traffic. The' suggested periods are as follows: From dusk on Wednesday May 29, until the morning of June 3. From dusk on Wednesday, July 3, until the morning of July 8. From dusk on Friday, August 30, until the morning of September 3. This program was adopted for 1963 by the Virginia Council of Highway Safety Super, visors, an organized group of safety and other officials within the Virginia Highway Users Association. The purpose is to remind motorists that they are on the highway during a particularly hazardous period. “It is hard to measure specific results in a program of this kind, but many people feel that it is helpful and anything that we can do to prevent someone getting hurt is worth trying, ’ said Baxter J. Johnson, Chairman of the safety council. The trucking industry suggests that during the daytime motorists burn their lights on low beam. Full bright lights are annoying, say some drivers.
