Mrs. T.Morgan Johnston answered the request of the Rappahannock News for pictures of yesteryear by lending this picture postcard of Gay Street that shows her home, and the residence of Mr and Mrs. Charles Jenkins and Mr. and Mrs. George H. Davis, jr. as they looked about the turn of the century. At that time the Johnstons home was recently built by Judge and Mrs. Hugh Dudley and the Davises home was occupied by Dr. and Mrs. E. W. Brown. Mrs. Dudley and Mrs. Brown were sisters and their homes were similar. The Jenkins home was owned by the James L. Powers family and he is remembered as the master build er of the county public buildings. His daughter, Miss Annie as one of the outstanding teachers of her day.
