Let us look at subject materials. say rural life, no, let us look at some ’of the authors who interpreted rural life. These indeed are many for they date back to the time of written history, and the greatest writers of all time have used the country as material for their writings. The poet as well as the proser frequently struck immortal lines on life in pastoral settings.Do you know these authors and their great works on rural experience? 5 Among the poets we must mention Robert Frost first who used farm life as a source for his most penetratlngWorks, Have you read his "Death of the Hired Man"? Robert Frost had deep feeling and understanding of man in the country. He is - worth studying. Of course there is the great Mark Twain, Hamlin Garland with his "Middle Boarder* aeries, and his "Main-Travelled Road" scored a mark on rural life interpretation. Then there is Wills Cather who wrote so much beautiful prose on the women and the country. "The ■Song of the Lark", "O Pioneersf "Shadows on the Rock", and "My Antonia* are only a few of her inspiring works. Another fine work on women and the farm was "Barren Ground" written by Ellen Glas1 gow who should have special meaning for Virginians. This ;; book would bear reading now when so many of us are trying .to rebuild rundown farms. There are m any things of common interest in her story of Dorinda Oakley's farm problems and ours.
