The link with PEPCO, the district manager said, provides another interconnection between the Allegheny Power System companies and utility systems in the east. PE is a subsidiary of APS. Nearly half the North American cont inent was tied together laist yi&r through a iseriea of interconnections. Seven of these were built by APS companies—three by PE and four by West Penn Power Company. All of these interconnections, McDaniel commented, enable electric utility companies to benefit from economies gained by generating electrical energy close to the source of coal or other fuel. They also enable the utilities to use excess power not needed in other areas, he added.
