The proposed Virginia law does not exempt foods,thereby differing from the Federal Act which does exempt them. Hazardous substances covered by the law, if in containers for household use, would be classified as toxic, corrosive* irritant, strong sensitizers, flammable, or pressure generating.
The other new proposed bill is the Pesticide Applicator’s Act. It would protect the environmental health of Virginia citizens by preventing indiscriminate use of pesticides by custom applicators, offer protection from fraudulent operators,- require pest control operators to have knowledge of pests, chemicals, hazards and application methods,and would require that operators be financially responsible for any damages. The new law would provide for advisory committees, inspection and rules and penalties for convicted violators.
