Six Traffic Fatalities

In County in ’63

Rappahannock County closed the year 1963* with six traffic fatalities occurring on the highways here. This is double that of the previous year. Traffic accidents in this county for the year total 107. Five of the fatalities happened at night and one in the daytime; 58 of the accidents occurred at night and 49 in the day. There was personal injury in 20 of the day wrecks as compared to 17 at night, and in 28 accidents in the daytime there was property damage with property damage in 36 of the night cases. A single car collision occurred near Washington Sunday night. Mrs. Downing Wood of Washington skidded on wet pavement and struck a bridge abutment. She was not injured but her daughter, Mary Miller Wood, Jr. sustained a lacerated face, multiple contusions and a shoulder injury. She was taken to Culpeper Memorial Hospital by Rappahannock Rescue Squad and remained a patient overnight. Mrs. Wood was driving a Falcon.
