Points to note in the picture are the dirt road, the lack of pebble dash on the Jenkinshouse (circa late twenties), the low bank in front of the Davis house, the presence of a sidewalk and a palling fence. The horse tied in front of Dr. Brown’s was his means of conveyance and Mr. B. R. Cox uses a pony for this purpose when he visits his daughter so it isn’t out of keeping today. The present large trees and shrubs are either non existent in the picture or so small they are hard to identify. It would be most interesting to see what that section of 4 Gay Street would look like in say the next fifty or sixty years. There should be postcards around of other views of the Town of Washington at the same time and we would be most happy to use them.
