Private Jens U. Tholand, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nils K. Tholand of Sperryville, will complete his Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, S. C. on April 24, 1964. This is the first phase of his active duty training and a part of the obligation he incurred upon enlisting in the U. S. National Guard. While assigned to Company C, 10th Battalion, 2nd Training Brigade of this Infantry Training Center, he has been introduced to a wide variety of infantry skills, along with intensive physical conditioning. He has attended classes in the tradition of the service, character guidance, and the role of the Army in the world today. Fort Jackson uses the, U.. S. Army's TRAINFIRE method of teaching rifle marksmanship. Under simulated battle conditions, the trainee fires at pop-up targets at unknown distances on terrain which duplicates combat areas. r
