Son of the .slast James Compton and .•{■ Frances Dean, his wife, and a -native of Sperryville, Rappah ■f frnnock County, he was 85. His wife, the former Miss -Martha Elizabeth Bowen died evin 1945. He was a member -►of the Masonic Lodge at Wash • ington, Va, • He is survived by one son, Charles W. Compton of Amiss* ville; one daughter, Mrs. Joseph Wharton of Arlington; and one granddaughter, Mrs. Kenneth Duggin of Arlington. A funeral service was held Wednesday, April 22, at 2:00 p.m. in the Geest funeral chapel, the Rev. John B. Hodge conducting the last rites. Interment followed in Amissville Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ralph Rowzie, John Tapp, Dan Wilson, Silas Martin, Sr., Edward Bowen, Ira Compton, Emerson Smith and Paul St. Clair.
