Slippery highways accounted for several traffic incidents in the county during the weekend.
A Richmond man and his wife escaped injury early Saturday morning, Sept. 12 when their '63 Corvair skidded on the wet road and overturned. The vehicle was operated by Irvin Stiles Marshall of Richmond and damage was estimated at $500 according to Trooper Paul Dicks, Mrs. Marshall was a passenger. The accident occurred on Route 522 about 6 miles north of Flint Hill. , At 2:15 a.m. Sept. 13 four 'miles east of Sperryville on Route 211 Cecil Leroy Mosely of Jeffersonton was going south in a ’55 Buick. The vehicle skidded on wet pavement, went down the bam on the left of the road and turned over on the top according to Trooper Dicks. Mosely sustained back injuries. Also injured were two passengers in the car, James Thomas Newman of Culpeper who had lacerations of the right arm and Danaio Richard Brent, also of Culpeper, who sustained facial lacerations and contusions. All were taken to Culpeper Memorial Hospital by Rappahannock Resuce Squad.
Thomas Franklin Lillard of Flint Hill overturned his 57 Mercury on the Resettlement Road Route 659, near Flint Hill on September 13. Lillard’s car went out of control when he met another vehicle, a 62 Ford operated by Ethel Ann Jenkins, Washington, on a hill The Lillard car struck the left bank and turned over, accord ing to Trooper W. A. Buntin, The Jenkins vehicle was not struck. Damage was estimated at $250.
