The Rappahannock Lions Club held Its regular supper meeting, Wednesday, September 9, at Hampton Inn. Highlight of the event was a visit by Lion Jim Shumaker, District Governor of District 24A and his party. Other guests present were Carson Taylor, Zone Chairman; William Latham, Deputy District Governor; Waller Jones, Past Deputy District Governor; and Jim Pruitt, District Chairmaij Safety Campaign. Dist. Gov. Shumaker brought a most inspiring message to> the ' local Lions in which he related the various programs dealing with sight conserva-1 tion, fostered by District 24A. It was noted that aside from the District programs of the Eye Bank, Old Glasses Collections, Care and the Virginia Home for the Blind, the Rappahannock Club is actively engaged in a program of its own. The Rappahannock Lions provide glasses for Reedy individuals in the county and contribute toward expenses that these individuals incur for eyesight conservation and cor rection. Lion Luther Stuart, the local eyesight committee chairman, reported that the club had spent some five hundred dollars for such purposes This, of course, is aside from the hundred spent for state, national and foreign programs Fund raising activities were discussed and final arrangements were made for the annual apple sales which will begin Sunday, September 20 at Merrill’s Corner in Washington. It is hoped that we will be able to continue the sales through the month of October. Naturally, those delicious fruit cakes will be available* to the people of Rappahannock again this year. Plan now to get yours early. Remember, they were sold out last year!

The Sperryville Bridge Club was entertained on Friday ev& ning by Mrs. R. E. Thompsen at Cab Inn with three tabled arranged for the ganridt'Thoso' playing were Mrs. Browni Miller, Mrs. I. O. Wolf, Mrs. Mary Botts Quaintance, Mrs. E. N. Montague, Mrs. E. V. Goddard, Mrs. R. E. Wood, Mrs. C. E. Johnson, Jr., Mrs. Fred W. Schaefer, Mrs. Charles K. Estes. High score prizes were awarded to Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Wolf.
