A slate: of nominees for membership on each of Rappahannock County’s 5 ASC community committees is being made up at the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation county office. H. S. Barksdale, Chairman, ASC Rappahannock county committee said today that a special effort is being made to secure the greatest possible participation of eligible voters in the election. Farmers who are eligible to vote in the committee elections also have the right to nominate as candidates for committee membership any farmer who is eligible and willing to serve. Such petitions, signed by six or more eligible voters, may be filed at the county office any time before September 23. Additional nominations may be made by the incumbent ASC community and county committees, if these are required or determined to be sufficient in number or eligible to serve. A "farmer eligible to vote in the committee elections,” according to the Chairman, is one who is taking part or is eligible to take part in any of the national farm programs which the ASC committee helps to administer. To hold office as a committeeman a farmer must be eligible to vote in the election. Further information on these and other qualifications may be obtained from the ASCS county office. The election of ASC community committees throughout Rappahannock County will be held Sept. 30 to Oct. 15, 1964 by mail ballots. Each community election will choose three community committeemen and two alternates. The chairman, vice chairman, and regular member of the elected ASC community committee will also serve respectively as delegate^ alternate delegate and second alternate delegate to the county convention to be held October 23 when the ASC county committee will be chosen.
