My thinking concerning the appointment of a game warden

My thinking concerning the appointment of a game warden has changed since I read the first report about it in the Rappahannock News. At first I felt that the situation was handled in a fashion not too admirable and immediately forgot about it. This week’s letters to the Editor have caused me to give the matter more thought. Now I feel that just because it happens to be a policy of the Game Commission dpt to appoint a local person Tor ;this position '-doesn’t mean that it is necessarily the best policy; and aren’t policies and laws changed when we come up with something more satisfactory? Can’t a local man be just as efficient as game warden as one can be as sheriff? I : cannot see any difference. , As to the fact that the man who may be appointed is a dyed-in-the-wool Republican, > I cannot see that this will pose . too much of a problem. ’Pears to me that I have more than one time seen dyed-in-thewool Democrats of Rappahani nock displaying Eisenhower or . Goldwater stickers on their cars and calling other dyed1 in-the-wool Democrats pro: fane names for not doing likewise.

Often we bemoan the fact thai there is so little opportunity for young people in Rappahannock County and that it is necessary for them to go elsewhere to seek a better living. So if there is any position in our county which can be filled by an efficient local person, it seems to me that those whc are in the position to do anything about such a situation ■ should do so. I dare say the Game Commission changes its policies occasionally. Our state and federal governments rescind laws and make new [ laws all the time. And why? . Because we, the people, demand such. 'Pears like a change is bfcing made in Selma now. And why? Because the ; people (not all of them) demand | such. So, you see the principle is somewhat similar in both situations!
