“Benefit checks from the Veterans Administration may be sent directly to the beneficiary’s bank for deposit to his account," Mr. Edward M. Mathews, Area Director, Division of War Veterans’Claims said today.
This arrangement is convenient for veterans who travel or those who have fre quent changes of address, Mr Mathews pointed out.
“Contrary to former legal re quirements, checks may now be forwarded to a beneficiary who has moved, provided the addressee has left a forward ing address with the post office,” Mr. Mathews said. A complete explanation of the arrangement may be obtain ed by contacting Mr. Mathews at the Clerk’s Office on 1st | and 3rd Monday from 2 to 4 p.m., and he will gladly give assistance on any other matter connected with veteran’s affairs.

The past 12 months in Virginia, 5,712 forest landowners were assisted in forest management problems by Virginia Division of Forestry personnel. District Forester, D. G. Wilfong, Jr., stated that requests from landowners is on the increase. Wilfong also stated this was encouraging to Division foresters, to see more forest landowners prac ticing better forestry prac tices each year. The increase over the preceding 12 months for Virginia was over 1,500 additional requests for service. The land area involved in this timber management program amount ed to' 242,000 acres. In addition Division marked over 100 000 cords of pulpwood for thinnings and marked for har vesting 126,000,000 board feet of timber under some improved cutting practices. Wilfong further emphasized that all who own forest land in Virginia should realize their trees are a crop; there fore, owners should seek advice and assistance to gain the most from their invest1 ment.
