Foliage Color Change
Field reports from the three administrative districts within Shenandoah National Park indicate less than norinal fall color change during tihe past several days, accord ing to Superintendent R. TaylorHoski ns. IHoskins reported that mounta in rains may have retarded the annual transformation some degree and as a result the overall activity thus far this year may be a few days behind that of a year ago at th is time.
Even so, fall signs are definitely appearing in the red oi' the dogwood and Virginia creeper, usually the first to ta ke on the shades of autumn. These are intermingled with some yellow beginning to tinge the leaves of the chestnut oaks, tulip poplars and hickories, Hoskins said, adding that predicted cool nights and sunny days may well bring out more pronounced changes during the next week.
