Radiological Monitor
Training Class
The first class of the Fall session of Radiological Monitor Training Courses will be held Monday, October 18th, at 7:30 p.m. at Civil Defense Headquarter, 2nd floor, Municipal Building in Culpeper. The Radiological Monitor Course provides training in the detection, measuring, recording and reporting of radioactive intensity in Culpeper County in case of a massive nuclear attack upon the United States. Ten fallout monitoring stations are either in existence, or will be provided, in the general areas of Jeffersonton, Brandy Station, Lignum, Richardsville, Mitchells, Smiths Market, Griffinsburg, Gourdvine Church, Rixeyville and the center of town in Culpeper. Each station must be manned by four qualified Radiological Monitors. Each qualified monitor will be encouraged to take his immediate family to the station with him when reporting for actual duty after a nuclear attack where they will be well protected against intense radioactivity.
The monitor course consists of 16 hours of instruction given from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for two and two-thirds weeks. The total requirement for monitors in Culpeper County is 150. Ninety-nine monitors are presently trained and available for this duty. Since Radiological Monitor training and participation in tests, refresher courses and actual duty performance are of a volunteer nature, the success of this program depends upon the support of all citizens of Culpeper County.
