The Commission proposed that fishing in the 60 acre trout lake and some three and one-half miles of Big Brumley Creek on its Hidden Valley Wildlife Management Area be restricted to artificial lures and barbless hooks. Current plans call for opening the area to angling at noon April 2, and a special minimum size limit is contemplated. An official proposal was drafted to close the waters, and marshes of Back Bay and its tributaries to goose shooting until the opening of the duck season November 20. Commission will take final action on the fish regulation proposals and others at their next meeting in Richmond October 15. How Patriotic Are Young Americana?
The recent rush to the altar prompted by President Johnson’s Aug. 26 deadline on draft exemptions for married men raised a question as to whether the nation’s youth today are as patriotic as the .youth of other generations. There are arguments on both sides of. '.the question. But the best answer probably would be tbftt if the modern young American is on the average as patriotic as his parents or grandparents, it must be a miracle. There are a great many things work ing against love of country today. Especially against the kind of love that make men willing to fight and die for their nation on a distant battlefield. The particular nature of the war in Viet Nam fails to inspire in many the flame of patriotism kindled in youth by other conflicts in which the United States has been in volved. It Is a war in which there are no battle fronts, little opportunity for personal glory, no key territorial ob jectives offering the chance for immediate victories
