Boy Scouts Plan Trip To Philmont Ranch
For Scouts and Explorers the Shenandoah Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, the "big one* is a trip to the Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimmarron, N. M. Scheduled to take that trip this summer are Stewart Hawkins of Washington and Danny Hitt of Amissville. These boys with others from* the Shenandoah Council will go to Philmont on July 5 and return the 27th. The trip will include side trips to Chicago, the U. S. Air Force Academy and other colleges and military installations in addition to rugged hiking and camping trips over historic sites of the west.
Weather Is Fickle
And Fascinating
Weather conditions this week have proved fickle and fascinating with above normal temperatures, sunshine, rain, fog and snow. Heavy rain Saturday and Sunday ceasing about dusk brought from 1.42 inches in the Amissville area and 1.68 inches in the Washington area. Creeks were high due to rain and melting snow with water standing on low lying areas. The unseasonable temperatures ranging in the high 40’s and 50’s have brought forth spring bulbs alongside banks of melting snow. Fog pockets hovering above snow banks, in low areas made beautiful eerie pictures in bright sunshine against the soggy landscape. Snow turning to rain on Wednesday morning was no real surprise as the weather prediction had ranged from 15 inches of snow to warm rain. It seems that the cold front nearly missed us.
