Invitations Issued To
Blossom Parade
Invitations to the Apple Blosson Firemen’s parade, traditional first-night event of the three-day Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival, April 2*829-30, have been mailed to volunteer fire companies of this four-state area and to bands and other units in 10 states and Canada. Harry M. Patterson, director of the parade, authorized the mailing of invitations and entry blanks from Festival headquarters.
Cash prizes totaling $825 are being offered in 12 classifications, with these awards supplemented by third place plaques. Winchester and Frederick County groups do not compete. New on this year's prize list are the awards of $50 and $25 for the best 'Aerial Ladder or Aerial Platform," with a plaque for third place in this classification. Other classifications and awards include: "Best Appearing Uniformed Fire Co." (with or without Women’s Auxiliary ) $100; second place, $50 and third place, plaque. "Best Pumper" in the **Over 500 gallons" class will receive $75; second place, $50 and third place, $25. These awards will be duplicated for winning pumpers in the “500 gallons and under" classification.
“Best Drum & Bugle Corps" (Sr. or Jr.) will receive a top prize of $75 and $25 second place and plaque third place. Bands of "Up through 60 pieces will receive awards of $50, $25 and plaque for first, second and third places. Bands of “61 pieces and up" will receive a top prize of $75, second place, $25 and third place, plaque. “Oldest Piece of Fire Fighting Equipment” will be given $25 and “Fire Company Coming Longest Distance" (bringing motorized fire-fighting equipment) will receive a special plaque, as well the “Best-Appearing
