Final classes of the 1966 Rappahannock Extension School will

Final classes of the 1966 Rappahannock Extension School will be held Wednesday, February 23 at the High School located about 3 miles west of Washington (Va.) on routes 211 and 522. To date enrollment has been good but Extension Agent, Bill Lyne states all attendance records are expected to be shattered. Why? The topics, the speakers, and concern of our people. Lyne sums it up that simply. Artificial Insemination of Beef Cattle has and will continue to grow as an interest arouser. MdVe is being learned about harmone additives to feed which will control estrousi Armour’s Gold and Silver Star bulls having been so very thoroughly tested before semen is made available plus A. I. service to such bulls being available locally; prom-i ise shown in the first A. I. Off-spring of these bulls on local farms each contribute to added interest. Also V.P. I.'s continuing research in A. I. is of concern. The fact that one farmer in an adjoining county bred 140 beef cows artificially in a thirtyday period is another curiosity stimulus. Another of the largest cow herds in the state using A. I. last spring should definitely know results by now; for better or for worse? TIMOTHY AND HORSES just plain go together like hand and glove. Rappahannock horse population is now believed to be larger than at anytime within the past 25 years. Palatability of timothy is higher than any other tall growing grass. Is our altitude high enough for it to out yield orchard grass. It has been so long since we had any appreciable number of horses as a result much of timothy production know-how is ov e r-the-hill. With many high water table soils like Augusta, Worsham, Altavista, Chewacla, Wehadkee, Trego, Belvoir, Roanoke, etc. in the county are they physically better suited to timothy or to orchard grass.
