Forage Conference
Farmers in northern Virginia are invited to attend the 1966 Northern Virginia Forage Conference at Middleburg March 1, says John F. Shoulders, Extension agronomist at Virginia Tech. The conference will stress results with corn silage for feeding dairy and beef cattle. Reports will be presented on supplements, including urea and cotton seed meal. Chairman of the event will be Dr. Coyt T. Wilson, director of the Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station. K. E. Loope, agricultural economist, will talk on the economics of forage and feeding systems. J. P. Fontenot, animal science department, will speak on corn silage with urea and other supplements, and J. T. Huber of the dairy science department will talk on urea supplementation of corn silage for feeding dairy cattle. R. E. Blaser, agronomist, will speak on forage production in South America during the afternoon session. G. D. Kite, agricultural engineer, will follow with a look at silo selection and feeding arrangements.
Research reports will be presented on: alfalfa weevil control, sod seeding clover and other legumes, Kentucky 31 versus Kenwell fescue, su-1 dan-sorghum versus corn and other crops, and status of the orchard grass seed program. A tour of dairy cattle and steer feeding experiments will end the program.
