A few yearsback, stilbestrol for feedlot cattle came into use and aided the cattle industry immensely. Most all commercial feedlots incorporate stilbestrol in their feeding programs because it improves efficiency by 15 percent No industry can neglect a 15 percent improvement in efficiency these days. When first tried on pasture, stilbestrol gave rather erratic results. After much experimentation here in Virginia we found out that reducing the

normally used we could p. e a steer of excellent qua!, / and also have our 15 percent increase inefficiency. We have found through much trial that a 12-milligram implant will give 30 to 35 extra pounds of growth during the summer grazing season and will not decrease the quality whatsoever. In fact, it will (in most cases) improve the quality of the cattle. The objection voiced by many people concerning the use of stilbestrol on pasture has been that where excessive amounts are used it caused the cattle to be slightly high at the tail heads and have a slab-sided appearance. Over-dosing definitely will cause this, even though you do get very good gains.
