Uninsured Motorist Fee Increased

The fee that Virginia charges uninsured motorists has been increased from $20 to $50 through legislation in the General Assembly. The fee is required to be paid by Virginia residents who register a motor vehicle that is not insured or one which is insured by a company that is not recognized in this state. When a resident acquires a title to a vehicle, he must certify that the vehicle is insured and give the name of the company, the policy number and date policy is issued. Otherwise he must pay the uninsured motorist fee which insures him against damage he may do other vehicles or drivers but not damage done his own vehicle or himself.
