EDINBURG, VA., July 17 - Rep. John O. Marsh, Jr., voiced concern about largescale proposed land acquisitions in the Shenandoah Valley by the federal government and said in Edinburg, Sunday,that, “future recreational needs demands careful planning of the r e c r e a tional opportunities available on existing federal, lands—park and forest--Defore more taxpayers’ funds are spent on new land acquisitions by the Federal Government.’
The 7th District Congressman, sole Virginia member of the House Committee on Appropriations and a member of its subcommittee handling funding for the National Park Service and recreational programs of the National Forest Service, spoke at dedication of the Camp Roosevelt Recreation Area, on the site of the first Civilian Conservation Corps Camp established in the 1930's. (Marsh was a sponsor of funds to develop the new picnic area at Camp Roosevelt — the first stage in a redevelopment of the camp as a memorial to the conservation effort of the CCC and rehabilitation of the old campfor current recreational use.) “There is tremendous pressure on our national recreation areas,* Marsh noted,‘and this has been recognized by the enactment of a program
