Radioman Second Class Ernest F. Clater, USN, son of Mrs. Maggie Clater of Sperryville, has returned toNorfolk, Va., from a four-month deploy ment in the Caribbean aboard the dock landing ship USS Ashland.
During the cruise Ashland participated in the major Atlantic Fleet exercise, “Beach Time" which included 41 ships- of the U. S. Second Fleet and Atlantic Fleet Amphibious Force. Operation “Beach Time* presented an opportunity to combine forces and conduct a task force training exercise. , While in the Caribbean, he visited such ports as St. Croix and St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; San Juan, Ponce and Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Ricg; Ocho Rios, Jamaica and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
