Eight Area Hospitals In Medicare Program
Eight hospitals in this area, with a total of 894 beds, are now participating in the Medicare program for the aged, according to Hazel F, Daly, Social Security Administration pistrict Manager in Winhealth
and safety standards and also the requirements of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 before they can partici pate in the Medicare program. The participating hospitals in this area, according to Mrs. Daly are: Winchester Me morlal Hospital, Warren Memorial Hospital, Shenandoah Hospital, Page Memorial Ho& pital, Charles Town General Hospital, King's Daughters Hospital, City Hospital and Morgan County War Memorial Hospital. Nationwide, 6,323 hospitals are now participating in the Medicare program, representing 95 percent of all general hospital beds in the nation that are available for use by Medicare patients. In Virginia, a total of 88 hospitals representing 90% of beds in the State are now participating in the program. In the area serviced by the Winchester Social Security district office, 15, 700 persons, age 65 or over, have enrolled in the hospital insurance benefits program.
