the band group with Charlestown High in second place. Vint Hill honor guard was voted the best marching unit and Charles Edward Jenkins and his pony were awarded a prize. Miss Brenda Hackley, HonoFary Fire Chief of Amissville, was named top in competition and Debbie Lynn Jeffries took high place in individual majorette. Luray had the best float and best comic entry. Robert F. Estes, president of the fire department and Chief John Walker Jenkins expressed their appreciation to all who attended, contributed and worked for the success of the carnival.

August 6 and 7 are two dates that country music fan6 and aspiring entertainers will mark down on their calendar. The annual National champion ship Country Music Contest at Lake Whippoorwill, Warrenton, marlos it's Sixteenth Anniversary with more prize money than ever before. This year’s category winners will divide $1500.00 in prize money. As always, fun and entertainment are the bywords at the 16th National Championship Country Music Contest. Special guest this year is funnyman-Archie Campbell. Master of ceremonies will be Archie, TomCat Reeder from WDON and ‘Red" Shipley from WKCW, Warrenton.
